NEWS AND OPPORTUNITIES
Sherborne House Update

Sherborne House has now been put on the market by Dorset County Council and there has been interest from two organisations that would like to transform the listed building into a boutique hotel, maintaining the gallery and creating a permanent home for the Frink archive. This would provide much needed accommodation in Sherborne, improve the position for tourism and enable the continuation of the arts programme. The important factor for the Trust is that the County Council is making the selection not on the highest price but on a ‘quality solution’, which means the proposal that offers the most benefit to the community.

Submissions from interested parties will be submitted to the Council by early July and there will then follow a period of evaluation and selection after which the chosen developer will apply for planning permission to West Dorset District Council. It is therefore likely that the House will close towards the end of 2008 while restoration is carried out under the auspices of WDDC and English Heritage.

The Arts Programme
Due to the Council’s decision to sell the building, we have sadly had to close the planned exhibition programme. Although this closure date was initially expected to be the end of April the Council has subsequently allowed us continued, but limited, use of the building until late September. This has enabled us to organise three short events making the most of our remaining time at the House.
These will be a series of exhibitions and creative dialogue events under the umbrella title ARTWORK + DISCOURSE. Details of the first event, Engaging with
Art and Archaeology, appear on the Events Page.
