The Trustees

The Trust comprises of experienced individuals in Arts and Business, both their delivery and governance, and this will be of great advantage to the organisational development of the project.

This development will involve a restructuring of the management and support of the House; previously delivered through the three organisations Sherborne House Trust, The Friends of Sherborne House and Sherborne House Arts. These will be merged to form Sherborne House Arts and Educational Trust, with each retaining their roles, personnel and expertise in order to give the project the most robust structure.

Progress at The House

After protracted negotiations ownership of Sherborne House and surrounding land passed from Dorset County Council to Redcliffe Homes in the autumn of 2011. Work on the external restoration of the historic house and Thornhill mural has been completed! The interior restoration is now in process. Included in the plans are the development and refurbishment of part of the building as gallery, sculpture garden and café. The Sherborne House Trust, supported by The Friends of Sherborne House, is working towards taking on the lease of these spaces to create an inspiring environment for engaging with visual art in a unique historical setting. Work has now been completed  on much of the development of 44 new homes behind the House.

Move to new office

We are now temporarily based in Dorchester – it’s a tiny office compared to the luxury of our large elegant room at Sherborne House but gives us an ideal base from which to work and continue with our programme development. Click here to get in touch with us.

Artists Archive sale

Thanks to all who supported us by buying work at our Artists Archive Sale in May last year.

We plan to hold similar sales in the future. Its a fantastic way of bringing great art to our audiences and give a unique opportunity for the public to buy original work from artists personal archives whilst raising funds to support the development of the Sherborne House gallery and our arts programme.

Getting involved

We are always interested in hearing from anyone keen to get more involved with the development of Sherborne House and our projects. If you think you can help in any way please get in touch.

About Sherborne House Arts

Sherborne House Arts (SHA) is the management committee responsible for developing and curating the visual arts programme at Sherborne House in Dorset. With an overarching aim of making contemporary visual art more accessible to a diverse audience, SHA develops and presents exhibitions and projects that reflect current visual art practice, encourage dialogue and develop opportunities for the creation of new work. SHA creates a platform for engaging with current visual arts and media practice in and outside the region. Whilst preparing for an eventual return to curating the programme at Sherborne House SHA is continuing to explore ways in which visual art can be shown in non gallery spaces. Our current projects have a Cultural Olympiad focus and involve artist commissions presented through the b-side festival and the Exploratory Laboratory project. To read more, visit our current projects page. SHA is actively seeking partnerships with host organisations and will investigate new ways of curating and presenting the visual arts, and providing the support and environments within which visual arts practice can flourish.
